How do I recover Google contacts deleted on an iPhone?

Answer

Deleted Google contacts are usually recoverable from Google Contacts trash on the web for about 30 days, not from the iPhone Recents alone. Sign in at contacts.google.com, open Trash, and restore the contacts so they can sync back to the iPhone.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Google typically keeps deleted contacts in Trash for a limited period (often about 30 days); after that they may be permanently gone.
  • Only sign in through contacts.google.com or the official Google app—not links from unexpected emails or texts.

Follow these steps

  1. Open Google Contacts on the web

On a computer or iPhone browser, go to contacts.google.com and sign in with the Google account that owned the contacts.

You should see: Your Google Contacts list loads for that account.

  2. Restore from Trash

Open Trash (or Bin) in the left menu, select the deleted contacts, and choose Recover / Restore.

You should see: The contacts leave Trash and reappear in the main contacts list.

  3. Re-enable Google contacts on iPhone

On the iPhone, go to Settings → Contacts → Accounts (or Settings → Google) and ensure the Google account is present with Contacts enabled. Open the Contacts app and pull to refresh.

You should see: Restored numbers sync back onto the iPhone under the Google account.

  4. Confirm account sections

In Contacts, tap Lists/Folders and check iCloud, Google, and On My iPhone separately so you know where new contacts will be saved next time.

You should see: You can see which account holds the recovered numbers.

Extra tips

What to look for: A Trash or Bin section in Google Contacts on the web, and whether the iPhone Contacts app lists accounts such as Gmail/Google versus On My iPhone.

Before you change anything: Confirm which email account owned the contacts. Avoid adding the same Google account twice on the iPhone until after web restore. Do not factory-reset the iPhone to fix missing contacts. Never enter your Google password on an unexpected link.
